There is a misconception that picking the right bike is easy. Many people think they simply find the bike that looks good and feels comfortable. Cycling is increasing in popularity in many areas of life, such as sports, hobbies, transport etc. we now have many different bikes to choose from. Using a bike as the main method of transport is quickly becoming popular. Some people have decided to take up cycling as a hobby. Consider how the bicycle brakes, for one. You have to think about what you are most comfortable with along the lines of stopping your bicycle. If you only want a bike to use occasionally as a hobby, you can go with normal brakes which are just small pads designed to clasp the wheel when used. For more hardcore cycling on tough terrain you may want some better brakes. These brakes are called 'disc brakes' and are located within the wheel, they are far more reliable than normal brakes and are less likely to fail over time.

Do you need extra gadgets for your bike? If you are using your bicycle as your primary form of transportation you might want to consider whether you will need things like baskets to help you transport goods. Will a child ever be transported on your bike? If so, you will need to find a bicycle that can safely support a baby seat. If towing something behind the bike, your need will change again. Your new bike needs to support the weight of the trailer if this is your plan.

Never leave out the safety gear, either. The new bicycle helmets look and feel nothing like the old bicycle helmets. Not great site only do they look a little better now, they are also safer for you. You should never even think about riding the bike without first putting on your helmet. You'd be surprised at how many lives have been saved from that one simple thing.

It wouldn't hurt to invest in some knee pads and elbow pads, as well as wrist and ankle guards if you plan to do some off-roading. Another piece of safety equipment that you should think about getting are pants clips, especially if you are going to be using your bike as a primary mode of transportation. They work by clipping your pants out of the way so they can't get tangled in the chain or gears.

You will see there are many things you should consider when you are finding the bike that's right for you. It can become a bit overwhelming when going shopping for a bike and accessories because there is just so much to choose from. Take your time and do some research and you’ll find the right bike before you know it.
